Flotsam, written by David Wiesner, is a story told entirely through pictures. A young boy is playing on the beach and discovers an old "underwater" camera that was washed up onto the sand from a large wave. He takes the camera to the store to develop the film, only to discover a whole new world taking place on the ocean floor. There are also pictures taken of the other children around the world who have discovered the camera previously. The illustrations in this book are outstanding and the imagination showed through the pictures is inspiring. I recommend this to teachers, parents, and the rest of you who may be looking for picture/fantasy books to add to your annotated bibliographies :)

This sounds like a great book for kids of any age. I think kids love pictures and would be so excited to see a book without pictures. It also provides many opportunites to be creative. Teachers can have the students create their own story to follow the illustrations. They can even do research about the differnt places that the camera has been. It's all about creativity when using this book. I definitely have to pick this book up and see the beautiful pictures for myself.
